900 fruitful trees planted by a civil initiative in Zabadani

Damascus Countryside( ST): Civil and popular activities carried out an afforestation campaign in the vicinity of the shrine of the Prophet Abel in Zabadani in the countryside of Damascus, which included planting more than 900 olive trees and other fruitful species.

Majed Salloum, who comes from Jaramana with the people of his area to participate in the campaign, said that they chose to plant olive trees as these trees enjoy permanence and greenery, indicating that the project has a charitable character, as the fruits of the trees will be allocated to needy families.

Shadi Barakat stressed the need to encourage young people to engage in civil and community initiatives to preserve the environment and vegetation cover, especially in light of the exposure of many lands during the past years to fires, which led to the loss of large green spaces.

Mowaffaq Abu Shash joined the campaign with his child to teach him the importance and necessity of planting trees, as the campaign aims to raise awareness of the importance of the tree as a symbol of giving, production and beauty.
