2000 Palestinian prisoners launch massive hunger strike in protest against Israeli occupation’s policy

RAMALLAH – Following the failure of talks between the representatives of the Palestinian freedom fighters, detained in the Israeli occupation jails and the Israeli Prison Services (IPS) regarding their demands to cancel all repressive measures recently imposed against them, the Palestinian prisoners decided to start an open hunger strike on the first day of Ramadan, which could be tomorrow, Wednesday, or Thursday.

The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society said in a statement that the letter the prisoners handed to the IPS stated that all prisoners’ representatives have agreed on starting the hunger strike on the first day of Ramadan and that the prisoners are bracing themselves for that as they refuse to go back on their demand to abolish all repressive measures adopted at orders from the fascist Israeli occupation cabinet minister Itamar Ben Gvir.

The freedom fighters started 36 days ago mutiny steps against the repressive measures, refusing to abide by certain IPS rules, according to WAFA News Agency.

The IPS said that some of the prisoners’ representatives started today the hunger strike and that the rest of the prisoners will join them on Thursday.

Since the beginning of this year, the occupation authorities have intensified their aggressive practices against the prisoners. In addition to psychological and physical torture, deliberate medical neglect, and solitary confinement, the occupation authorities have reduced the quantities of water and food, and denied those visits to their families.

The occupation authorities also approved (the laws of executing prisoners and depriving them of treatment and surgical operations), in clear violation of international agreements and laws, and as part of escalating measures, the occupation authorities are trying to harass prisoners and deprive them of their most basic rights.

Since the 14th of last February, the prisoners began their struggle after the occupation authorities announced the start of implementing the abusive measures recommended by Ben Gvir.
