Syrian-Iranian Consultations Ongoing

DAMASCUS, (ST)_His Excellency President Bashar Al-Assad received here today the visiting Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Javad Zarif and the accompanying delegation.

The consultations during the meeting touched upon the new developments in Syria and in the region and upon the agenda of the coming tripartite meeting between the leaders of Iran, Russia and Turkey, where the viewpoints were identical regarding the discussed issues.

President Assad and Minister Zarif reiterated that the pressures put by some Western States on Syria and Iran would never derail them from their persistent defense of their principles and of the interests of their people as well as of the security and stability of the entire region.

Both sides pointed out that such pressures put on both countries and threats by some Western States assert but the failure of the schemes planned for the region.

President Assad and Minister Zarif voiced satisfaction over the level of the standing bilateral relations and agreed on the continuation of coordination and consultation at all levels.

On August 12, 2015, His Excellency President Bashar Al-Assad underscored that the steadfastness and will are the best way for the realization of people’s interests, in reference to the Iranians’ steadfastness and unity with their leadership and commitment to their independent resolution which led to the recent signing of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) regarding Iran‘s peaceful use of nuclear energy.

Receiving the visiting Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Javad Zarif, President Assad voiced the Syrians appreciation for Iran’s firm support to their country, welcoming the sincere efforts exerted by Iran and friendly countries as to stop war launched against Syria and as to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Viewpoints regarding the best ways as to find a peaceful solution for the war launched against Syria were exchanged. Minister Zarif asserted that the Syrians’ will should be the compass for whatever ideas to be proposed to this effect and away from foreign interference and in perseverance of Syria’s territorial integrity and independence of decision.

Minister Zarif reiterated Iran’s determination to pursue providing every support enabling the steadfastness of the Syrians alleviating their sufferings in the face of the bloody war launched against them by the organizations of terrorism.

President Assad and Minister Zarif asserted that all countries in the region and abroad should recognize that their destiny and the future of their people are not safe in the light of the cancerous spread of terrorism, and that all have to sincerely and seriously work for combating such a looming danger through the coordination of efforts and the adoption of on the realities and facts based and far sighted policies and through refraining from backing terrorist groups and from providing political cover for such groups.

The Iranian Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif described his talks with H.E. President Bashar Al-Assad as ‘good’ and has been focused at ‘solving the crisis in Syria’.

‘It is the ripe time that other players and our neighbors to concentrate at and care about the realities and to respect the demands of the Syrian People and work for the fighting against extremism, terrorism and sectarianism,” added Minister Zarif.
