Zarif condemns the American plan to extend Iran arms embargo

TEHRAN, (ST) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has condemned the American plan to extend Iran arms embargo.

Zarif tweeted in response to the plans of the US officials’ weeks ago regarding extending the Iranian arms embargo that America is at the forefront and is the largest of arms exporters and the largest in military spending in the world. He added that America is at the forefront of  the instigators of war, and at the forefront of those who benefit from global conflicts and it is strange  how it is now concerned about the abolition of the arms embargo on Iran.

 According to one of the provisions of International Resolution 2231, which went into force in 2016, a ban was imposed on Iran that prevented it from purchasing offensive weapons, and this period expires in October 2020.

Last Wednesday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that Washington was seeking to extend Iran arms embargo, and if it had not succeeded, it would “study other possibilities.”
