UN , Saudi Arabia Sign Agreement to Rehabilitate Bakeries in Syria

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) have signed a $5 million agreement to enhance food security, support economic recovery, and strengthen community resilience in Syria.

In a statement, UNDP said the agreement was signed yesterday on the sidelines of the European Humanitarian Forum held in the Belgian capital, Brussels. It aims to rehabilitate 33 bread production units across eight of Syria’s fourteen governorates.

“The damage sustained by government bakeries during Syria’s crisis has significantly disrupted bread production, exacerbating food insecurity in vulnerable communities,” the statement added.

“The lack of resources to repair essential infrastructure has delayed recovery, making the rehabilitation of these bakeries a critical step toward stabilizing food supplies and supporting economic revitalization.”

UNDP affirmed that the agreement reflects its ongoing commitment, alongside KSrelief, to sustainable recovery and reconstruction efforts in Syria.
