Ugarit Plastic Art Forum aims at reviving and documenting Ugaritic heritage

Over 7 days, plastic artists from different Syrian governorates gathered in the archeological site of Ras Shimra in Lattakia to prepare artworks for the Ugarit Plastic Art Forum which concluded on Saturday by showcasing the artists’ products in an exhibition held at Dar Al- Assad for Culture by the Fine Arts Directorate in Lattakia.

A ceremony was held at the end of the forum, during which the participating artists were honored.

Minister of Culture in the caretaker government Lubana Mushaweh, in a speech during the ceremony, stressed the special importance of the forum, which will have a distinguished position on the agenda of Syrian art life in the future, due to the civilizational and human value of the Kingdom of Ugarit, where the first alphabet was born and the oldest musical note known to history was discovered.

Mushaweh pointed out that the special and historical importance of Ugatit imposes responsibility to preserve, revive and document this civilization, so that this forum will be a link in a set of procedures to revive and document the Ugaritic heritage, through the participation of artists who have their imprint in the life of Syrian visual arts and who have, through their paintings, told the story of Ugarit and immortalized its achievements, each in his own way, artistic style and expressive tools.

She considered that the forum represents a very important step on the path of constructive partnership and effective civil contribution to the Syrian visual arts movement, noting that art is not just an expression, rather, it constitutes one of the largest pillars of the economic and tourism movement in any country.
