Trump administration once again gives the Israeli occupation the green light to annex parts of the West Bank
A new blow to the international community and the resolutions of the United Nations was directed by US President Donald Trump’s administration after it announced its readiness to recognize the annexation of parts of the West Bank to Israel.
The Trump administration has once again confirmed its absolute and unconditional bias for the Israeli occupation entity and violated international laws in order to achieve its colonial interests by an announcement made by the US State Department spokeswoman on April 27 that Washington is ready to recognize the annexation of parts of the West Bank to Israel to give it the green light to complete its settlement plans.
The announcement of the US administration on the West Bank comes within the framework of stated intentions and a prior agreement between Washington and Israel and it also falls in the context of Trump’s attempts to complete his role in achieving Israeli ambitions and plans before the end of his first term, despite the many political and diplomatic crises facing him, especially after his failure in dealing with the Corona pandemic.
The State Department spokesperson’s statement confirms what US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on April 22that “ the final decision regarding the annexation of areas of the West Bank is decided by the next Israeli government.”
Extensive international condemnation faced the occupation authorities’ announcement of its plan to annex lands from the West Bank, including the United Nations Coordinator for the Middle East Nikolai Mladenov who said that any possible annexation of Palestinian lands to the occupation entity would be a devastating blow to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
The European Union’s Foreign Policy Commissioner Josep Borrell said that the Union’s position regarding the status of the lands occupied by Israel in 1967 has not changed.
However, all reactions opposing these plans were not sufficient to prevent the occupation authorities or the American administration from moving forward in achieving their plans similar to what happened previously after Trump’s declaration regarding the occupied Syrian Golan and his recognition of occupied Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
The Israeli occupation authorities are dangerously accelerating the implementation of their settlement plans within the framework of the so-called “ Deal of the Century” which aims at liquidating the Palestinian issue and forfeiting the rights of the Palestinian people.
