The Jableh Antiquities Department started the work of converting the old Jableh prison building “Al Saraya” into a museum at the beginning of this month.

Head of the Jableh Antiquities Department Dr. Masoud Badawi stated that the Department of Antiquities started the restoration of  the ground floor of the old“ Saraya ”building under the supervision of engineers from the Department.

Badawi said that the museum will display the artifacts discovered as a result of the archaeological excavations that were carried out in various locations in the Jableh area of Tal Tueni, Tal Sokas, Tel Ciano, Tel Iris, the cemeteries of the Jubaybat, Azza, Al Fayd cemeteries, Bani Qahtan Castle, Al Minaqah Castle, Nepal Summit, Jableh archaeological theater, and the Roman Bath.

Badawi pointed out that the museum will serve as a civilizational and cultural center, which introduces visitors to the ancient history of the Jableh region, which extends from the sixth millennium BC to the nineteenth century AD.

It is noteworthy that the old Saraya building in the city of Jableh is considered one of the most important historical and archaeological buildings in it.
