The only country that opposes the international community’s call for a ceasefire in Gaza Strip in the U.S., says Nebenzia

Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzia has stressed that the United States is the only country in the world that stands against the international community’s calls for a ceasefire in Gaza.

According to the Russian TASS agency, Nebenzia said during a meeting of the UN Security Council on Friday: “Unfortunately, our many attempts with our supporters to adopt a resolution in the UN Security Council, demanding a comprehensive ceasefire, even for humanitarian purposes, are facing strong opposition from the United States.”

This unacceptable situation reveals the double standards policy of the United States towards the crises in Gaza and other regions of the world,” Nebenzia added, clarifying that the Security Council is still unable, because of Washington, to carry out its tasks in maintaining international peace and security for three months.

Nebenzia stressed the importance of working to restore “the prospects for a political settlement in the Middle East on the basis of international law and well-known resolutions” that stipulate the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital.
