The Fund for Mitigating the Effects of Drought and Natural Disasters compensates 16,168 affected farmers with an amount of 4.5 billion pounds in 9 governorates
Damascus (ST): The Board of Directors of the Fund for Mitigating the Effects of Drought and Natural Disasters on Agricultural Production agreed to compensate 16,168 affected farmers with an amount of 4.5 billion pounds in 9 governorates.
During a meeting held today, chaired by the Minister of Agriculture, Eng. Muhammad Hassan Qatana, at the ministry building, the council agreed to compensate the affected farmers in Deir Ezzour governorate as a result of dust and rain storms, winds and torrential rains that occurred at the end of April and the beginning of May of this year on wheat, barley and tomato crops, where the number of affected farmers reached 486 , with a damaged area of 3,481 dunums, with a total amount of 4,749,482 pounds.
He also agreed to compensate the affected farmers in the governorate of Damascus countryside “Zabadani and Qatifeh areas” as a result of the frost that occurred at the beginning of April on cherry and apricot trees , pears and peach.
