Shtayyeh calls on the Red Cross to provide protection for Palestinian prisoners

On March 24, Palestinian Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh called on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to provide international protection for Palestinian prisoners in the Israel-run detention camps and prisons from infection with the Coronavirus.

During his meeting today with the Head of the Red Cross Mission in Jerusalem Daniel Duvellar, Shtayyeh stressed the necessity of releasing all prisoners, especially the sick ones, the elderly, children and women, to protect them from an epidemic that can  not be controlled.

The Israeli occupation authorities continue their violations against Palestinian prisoners in their detention centers and prevent the taking of precautionary measures against the Coronavirus, which threatens the lives of 5,000 Palestinian prisoners, including 200 children and 700 patients suffering from chronic diseases such as heart, kidneys, cancer, diabetes, dozens of women and the elderly.
