Scientific symposium on archaeological finds in Tartous

Under the auspices of the Ministry of culture and in cooperation with the Hungarian mission operating in Al-Marqab Castle, a scientific symposium and a photo exhibition were held at Tartous Museum under the title (Tartous through archaeological finds).

The symposium included several topics in which the lecturers spoke about the most prominent archaeological sites in the province and the most prominent archaeological discoveries. The topics covered the island of Arwad, the excavations at Tell Kazal, the Amreet site, the Atlas project, archaeological sites, ancient Tartus and ancient Safita. The one-day symposium also discussed the results of the work of the joint Syrian-Hungarian mission and its documentation in heritage sites.

Eng. Marwan Hassan, Director of the Department of Antiquities in Tartous, explained that the event was diverse, as it also included an exhibition of books on the publications of the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums (at reduced prices) and a photo exhibition dealing with displaying information and pictures of archaeological sites and archaeological finds in Tartous.

On the importance of holding this scientific symposium, Eng. Hassan pointed out that holding such symposiums contributes to the dissemination of culture and archaeological information in a way that is easy for citizens, which aims to introduce greater knowledge of the history of the region and the most important archaeological sites in the governorate.

During the symposium, 3 researchers in the field of antiquities  were honored :  Muhammad Raif Heikal, Ramez Hosh and Bassam Watfa, in appreciation of their efforts in protecting the Syrian heritage.
