Rouhani pledges ‘crushing response’ if U.S. extends arms embargo

TEHRAN, (ST)  – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani affirmed that lifting the arms embargo on Iran is part of the nuclear agreement reached with the international community, explaining that if the United States wants to block this, Iran will also respond firmly to the American steps.

In a speech on Wednesday, Rouhani repeated Iran’s longstanding criticism of Washington’s decision to exit the nuclear deal, which he called a “stupid mistake”, stressing that Tehran will respond with a crushing response if the arms embargo has been extended.

Rouhani added that Washington should lift the sanctions on Iran if it wanted to return to the nuclear agreement and said that, ” America should know and the rest of the countries that Iran will not accept any amendment or non-compliance with Security Council Resolution 2231. He stressed that America and other countries must know that the path of obstructing the end of the arms embargo on Iran is blocked.

Tehran does not want to launch any war, but will respond

On the other hand, the head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Islamic Shura Council Mojtaba Zuo alNour stressed that his country does not want to launch any war in the region, but in return is ready to respond firmly to any attack on it.

Zuo alNour said in a statement that, “we will not be the initiators of any war in the region, but our armed forces have warned the Americans that if they want to carry out provocative actions, they will not hesitate to respond to them firmly.”
