Returnees from Rukban Camp: US Occupation Forces Starving Residents by Blocking Humanitarian Aid to the Camp

HOMS, (ST)- Displaced Syrian families who have returned from Rukban Camp talked about the difficulties they faced and the blackmailing they were exposed to by US-backed terrorist groups controlling the camp area.

Tens of displaced families on Wednesday, left Rukban camp in al-Tanf area near the Syrian-Jordanian borders and arrived in Jlegim corridor in Homs eastern countryside. The returnees, including women and children, were trapped in Rukban camp by US occupying troops and their affiliated terrorist groups which have been deployed in a-Tanf area and have been hindering an end to the humanitarian crisis in the camp.

The returnees were provided with food and medical care at the corridor site in preparation to be moved to makeshift housing centers in Homs by vehicles dedicated by Homs governorate for this purpose.

The families return came within the framework of the efforts being exerted by the Syrian government to help the Syrians, who were displaced because of terrorism, return to their homes after the Syrian Arab army had liberated their areas of residence.

The returning families also spoke about the miserable life they experienced in the camp due to  the lack of health care and food, expressing happiness for returning home. They urged immediate dismantling of the camp called for returning all the trapped people to their original areas in order to avoid more catastrophic situation.

Muhsen Ali al-Qamarawi, one of the returnees, said the US occupation forces want to starve the people in Rukban Camp by blocking the entry of humanitarian aid convoys. The aim is to humiliate residents of the camp, prevent them from returning to their liberated villages and towns and to use them for political purposes.

Mohammad al-Mubarak, on his part, said that government concerned parties have facilitated the return of displaced Syrians from the “camp of death”  even those who don’t have official documents proving their identity.

Mohammad al-Subh, on his part, called on all residents of Rukban Camp, particularly young people, not to be afraid, to leave immediately and return home.
