Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Rema Qadri has declared that 113 Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in various Syrian provinces joined ‘Leqmetna Sawa 3’ campaign [Food sharing campaign] in order to distribute Iftar and Suhoor food to poor families in Ramadan month [Muslim holy month of fasting], which started yesterday.
Her remark was made during a celebration held Saturday by ‘ Konna Wa Sanabqa’ team [ We were and we will remain team] to launch ‘Kasret Khebez’ initiative [Piece of Bread Initiative].
“The campaign is very important as it consolidate the principles of social solidarity,” the minister said, adding that food is being prepared in the kitchens of the NGOs and it is distributed among poor people in accordance with information collected by the NGOs and temporary shelters.
“The initiative also targets soldiers working in military checkpoints,” Qadri stressed, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
The agency quoted Head of ‘ Konna Wa Sanabqa’ team Saed Abdul Ghani as saying that the team joined ‘Leqmetna Sawa 3’ campaign in order to distribute food among poor people in Damascus and its countryside.
“Around 1100 volunteers prepare over 10.000 Iftar meals daily. They prepare food from 10.00 am till 3.00 pm. However the preparation of Suhoor meals starts from 10.00 pm till 2.00 am,” he added.
The campaign depends on donations and society’s support.
30.000 food parcels were distributed daily during the ”LeqmetnaSawa1′ campaign.
