Political Track to End War against Syria

DAMASCUS, (ST)_ H.E. President Bashar Al-Assad received here Sunday the visiting Russian President Special Envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev and the accompanying Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and delegation members.

Mr. Lavrentiev briefed H.E. President Assad on the talks held during the recently held quartet summit in Istanbul and on the efforts exerted by Russia with all regional and international sides as to eliminate the obstacles hindering the realization of progress in the political track that would end the war against Syria.

President Assad highly lauded the great efforts exerted by Russian Officials, particularly by H.E. President Vladimir Putin, as to isolate foreign interferences in the Syrian Affairs, in contribution to assisting the Syrians to determine by themselves their own future to their best interests.

The talks touched upon the formation of a Committee to discuss the current Constitution; agreement was made as to pursue joint efforts between Syria and Russia as to eliminate the obstacles still hindering the formation of this Committee.

On October 19, 2018,President Assad reiterated that Syria would pursue to the best of its genuine will to fight against terrorism as to eliminate it and restore stability.

Receiving Mr. Lavrentiev and the accompanying Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and delegation members, President Assad underscored Syria’s commitment to her rights enshrined by International Laws and Conventions, as not to allow any foreign side to meddle in her domestic affairs.

‘Some countries in the region and several Western countries continue to interfere in the political track and put pressures as impose their will on the Syrians, which would but obstruct the achievement of any progress,” outlined H.E. President Assad.

Viewpoints regarding the developments of conditions in Syria, particularly at the political track and the process of the formation of the present Constitution Committee, were exchanged.

The talks also touched upon the issue of the return of the Syrians who were forced by war conditions to leave Syria, where President Assad reiterated that the return of the Syrians to their homeland is but the main objective and priority for the Syrian Government, which is persisting in its exerted efforts as to provide whatever necessities for their return.

On January 11, 2018, H.E. President Bashar Al-Assad has stressed that the major victories achieved by the Syrian Arab Army in cooperation with Russia and other allies in the fight against terrorism have been an important factor in foiling hegemony and division schemes designed by the West and its agents against Syria and the region.

President Al-Assad, during his meeting with the Russian President’s Special Envoy for Syria, Lavrentiev and the accompanying delegation, added that theses victories enhance efforts as to find peaceful solution that restores stability to Syria.

The meeting focused on growing cooperation between Syria and Russia in all domains, particularly in the fight against terrorism in addition to Astana process as well as the forthcoming National Syrian Dialogue Congress in Sochi.

President Al-Assad and Lavrentiev affirmed the importance of good preparation for the congress in order to come up with positive results that embody the aspirations of the Syrian people in protecting their homeland and restoring security and stability to the country.

“The Russian support for the Syrian people in confrontation of the terrorist war imposed on them over the past years has contributed to boosting the historical ties between the two friendly countries,” said President Al-Assad, noting the importance of expanding cooperation in the economic field to serve the interests of the peoples of both countries.
