Homs, (ST)- More than a thousand young men and women from different villages and areas of Wadi Al-Nadarah region participated in the “Peacemakers” Marathon which kicked off yesterday on the side line of “Al-Qal’a wa Al-Wadi Festival”, the Citadel and Valley Festival.
Manar Nakrour, Head of the Junior Chamber International, JCI at Wadi Al-Nadarah, which organized the marathon, stressed that the objective of the Marathon was charitable pointing out that the valley was chosen for hosting this activity thanks to its large areas, fresh air and charming nature stressing that the revenue of this activity will go to support the project of Maryam in St. Peter’s Monastery of Charity.
Roudina Ayoub, Director of Public Relations at the JCI in Al- Wadi, praised the great efforts exerted by the young people of the chamber who organized and carried out the marathon, pointing out that the Marathon had two starting points. The first point was from the monastery of St. George, while the second point of departure was near the Municipality of Al-Hawash to accommodate people with special needs, the elderly and children, pointing out that the end point of the marathon was the Monastery of St. Mar Elias in Al-Hawash . Prizes were given to the winners in a joyous party held at the Square of St. Mar Elias.
Dr. Sam Abboud said he was pleased to participate in the marathon as a sportsman and surgeon, pointing to the significance of this marathon in emphasizing the importance of sport in building a healthy body.
And Dr. Majd Jalhoum from the Center of St. Peter’s Monastery said that Maryam’s project was launched a year ago to help children with chronic diseases.
