Palestinian Commission of Detainees demands the release of Palestinian prisoners following the outbreak of Coronavirus
The Palestinian Commission of detainees renewed its call on the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to put pressure on the Israeli occupation authorities to release the Palestinian detainees in their jails in light of the outbreak of the Coronavirus.
In a statement today reported by Wafa News Agency, the Commission stated that the practices of the Israeli occupation in the prevention of precautionary measures being taken against the virus threaten the lives of 5,000 Palestinian prisoners, including 200 children and 700 patients suffering from chronic diseases such as heart, kidneys, cancer, diabetes, in addition to dozens of women and the elderly. The commission pointed out that the Israeli occupation refuses to provide the detainees with cleaning and sterilization materials while the international community and its institutions are silent with regard to the suffering of the Palestinian prisoners and the threat to their lives after the outbreak of this epidemic.
The Commission called on the UN institutions that describe themselves as the watchdog of human rights to release the Palestinian detainees, especially the sick and the elderly, in order to avoid a real human tragedy.
