TRIPOLI, (ST)-The second Deputy Speaker of the Libyan Parliament Ahmid Houma has revealed that the Turkish regime led by Recep Tayyib Erdogan is putting huge pressure on the Turkish-backed National Accord Government to send its militias to the city of Sirte with the purpose of controlling the oil-rich al-Hilal area.
In an interview with Sputnik on Monday, Houma said “there are persistent attempts by Turkey to pressure the government of Fayez al-Sarraj to go to the city of Sirte and then take over the oil-rich area of al-Hilal and of the city of Al-Jafra.” He indicated that Sirte is a gateway to Libya’s southern area and its oil fields.
Houmah also indicated that Erdogan’s regime has put pressure on the National Accord government to sign the memorandum of understanding on maritime borders, stressing that the reason behind this is the ambitions of the Turkish regime in Libya, including Erdogan’s announcement about gas exploration in Libyan territorial waters.
