Iran puts 61 American figures on sanctions list

Iran placed 61 American figures on the sanctions list on Saturday, including former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former National Security Adviser John Bolton, for their involvement in providing support to a terrorist organization.

A statement posted on the Iranian Foreign Ministry website said that based on the Law on Combating Human Rights Violations and Adventurous and Terrorist Behaviors of the United States in the region, in particular Article 4 of the law, American individuals and officials have been placed on the terrorist list because of their deliberate support for the so-called “People’s Mojahedin Organization”. They participated in the terrorist organization’s  gatherings, supporting their terrorist goals and acts, in addition to providing them with political and propaganda support.

The ministry added, “Over the past decades, this faction has committed countless terrorist acts, killing more than 17,000 innocent civilians, especially children and women. Despite the brutal nature of this organization and its armed terrorist activities, the United States continues to support and adopt double standards and persists on its hypocrisy in this regard.”

The ministry statement indicated that in light of the United States’ violation of international obligations that it must refrain from facilitating or encouraging terrorist acts through its support for this group, it decided to add 61 American officials and individuals to the sanctions list, including Pompeo, Bolton, former senators Joseph Lieberman, Robert Torcelli and others.
