Guterres: Only a vaccine against Corona will allow conditions to return to normal
New York,(ST)- United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed the need to develop a vaccine against the Coronavirus, saying, “Only a safe and effective vaccine will allow the world to feel a return to normalcy.”
“A vaccine like this will save millions of lives and countless billions of dollars,” Agence France-Press quoted Guterres as saying during a video conference.
Guterres called for accelerating the development of the vaccine and making it available to all and said, “We need ambitious efforts to ensure a coordinated and integrated approach in order to ensure the maximum speed and make this vaccine available to all by the end of 2020.”
Guterres pointed out that the world appeal he made on the 25th of March for the donation of two billion dollars within the framework of the United Nations humanitarian plan to respond to the epidemic allowed has resulted in approximately 20 percent of this amount.
