DAMASCUS- Competent authorities in Palmyra have seized 4 funeral busts in one of ISIS former centers in the city of Palmyra.
The statues, which were handed over to the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums, date back to the 2nd and 3rd A.D. centuries. They embody two men and two women wearing the well-known uniform of Palmyra, SANA reported.
General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums considered that the statues had been stolen from the tombs of the southeastern cemetery which was repeatedly looted by ISIS terrorists.
Director of the Museum Affairs at the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums Mohammad Nazir Awad told SANA Saturday that the Directorate received the statues, asserting that the current situation of the statues will be studied and assessed.
Awad added that the directorate has become one of the pioneering institutions in fighting the illegal trafficking of ruins on the global level due to its cooperation with the competent authorities.
