Damascus, (ST) – The 50th extraordinary conference of the Federation of Arab Institutions in Latin American Countries “FEARAB America” concluded its activities at Reda Saeed Hall at the University of Damascus.
Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Ayman Soussan said in a speech during the closing session that this conference formed the foundation for a new beginning that strengthens the work and path of “FEARAB”, so that it can fulfill its responsibilities in defending the issues of the Arab nation in the countries of expatriation.
Soussan stressed that FEARAB has demonstrated, over fifty years of work and activity in the countries of Latin America, a great ability to promote Arab issues, adding: “In the era of international transformations, we are required to do more so that these transformations can lead to achieving justice and democracy in international relations.
Soussan said: “During this conference, you learned about the political, economic and tourism reality in Syria, and you saw the effects and repercussions of the unjust war to which our country was subjected and the sacrifices offered by our army and people in defense of the sovereignty, independence and dignity of Syria and the supreme interests of the Arab nation”.
He pointed out that the target is the idea of Arabism itself and the Arab nation and the commonalities and bonds between the Arabs.
Soussan added: Syria emerged from this challenge stronger and it continues to adhere to its positions in order to defend Arab interests and the pride and dignity of the Arab nation because it is a matter of belonging and identity.
In the final statement, the conference affirmed that the Union, over the past fifty years, has achieved its goals in gathering Arab immigrants in Latin America to be a strong front in defense of noble and just causes.
The statement, read by FEARAB President George Alam, pointed to the importance of contributing to the revival of Arab customs and traditions in the societies in which they live and putting all professionals and specialists at the service of the reconstruction of Syria.
The statement called for relying on international laws and rights to achieve peace and a just and rational solution to all problems, and for condemning all attacks against Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya and Palestine.
The statement also called for respecting the right to self-determination of peoples, implementing international laws approved by the United Nations, and supporting the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital, in addition to the right of return for all the Palestinians.
The statement pointed to the need to lift the unjust economic siege imposed on the peoples of Syria, Cuba and Venezuela, and to put pressure on the United Nations in this context.
The statement concluded by calling for respecting human rights, abandoning the use of violence, blockades, and theft of natural resources, and preserving the environment. It stressed that FEARAB will continue to work to achieve these goals.
