Damascus, Moscow Trying to Implement UN Humanitarian Plan in Aleppo, But “Opposition” Hindering Operartion
MOSCOW, (ST)- Syria and Russia are sparing no effort as to implement the UN humanitarian plan in Aleppo, but the so-called “moderate opposition” is blocking achieving this goal, a source at the Russia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office in Geneva has stressed.
“Russian Today” website quoted the source as saying in a statement on Saturday that “Russia has been doing its best to implement the UN plan on delivering humanitarian aid to the residents of Aleppo eastern neighborhoods.”
“Moscow and Damascus are trying to prepare the suitable circumstances for conducting humanitarian operations, whereas the so-called [opposition], including both political commissions and armed factions, are systematically undermining the UN effort in this respect,” the source added.
The source’s remarks came in response to claims by Jan Egeland, head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), alleging that the “Syrian government is hindering the delivery of humanitarian aid to Aleppo”.
The source urged Egeland and other UN officials to clearly expose the names of the parties involved in hindering the implementation of humanitarian operations.
