Damascus Countryside: A festival to light the 33 meter Christmas Tree in Sednaya

Damascus Countryside (ST): The Square of  Mary Monastery in Sednaya, Damascus Countryside witnessed a festival to celebrate lighting the 33 meter Christmas Tree  and revealing a Christmas Grotto of an area of 400 square meters.

Ziyad Azar, head of the monastery’s protocol band said that lighting the Christmas Tree in the square of the Monastery represents lighting the people’s hearts with love and wellbeing  and a celebration of Jesus Christ who came to guide us towards fraternity, right and mercy and to live in peace and justice expressing deep thanks to the people of Sednaya for their great support in making the event a success.

Poet Riyad Sa’adeh recited some verse pieces that highlight the sublime values of  Christmas symbols, especially its call for tolerance and co-existence.

The Priest of Mary Church for the Syriac Orthodox Gabriel al-Khuri said that the event represents a message of peace from Syrian people to  the whole world, extending congratulations to all Syrian people.
