The National Independent Authority for Elections (ANIE) in Algeria announced the election of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for a new term according to the preliminary results of the presidential elections held on Saturday with 94.7 percent of votes.
National Independent Authority for Elections (ANIE) head Mohamed Charfi said:” Of 5,630,000 voters recorded, 5,320,000 voted for the independent candidate Abdelmadjid Tebboune, accounting for 94.65 percent.
Other candidates included conservative Abdelaali Hassani Cherif, who won 3 percent of the votes, and socialist Youcef Aouchiche, who won 2.1 percent.”
Electoral commission head Charfi announced an “average turnout” rate of 48 percent. He confirmed that the body had worked to ensure transparency and fair competition among all candidates.
