Algeria, (ST) – Algeria called on France to take concrete measures to deal with the negative repercussions of the colonial era in order to look forward.
The Algerian News Agency reported that the Algerian Committee for Memory and History presented, during the fifth joint meeting with the French Committee, an open list of Algerian property with symbolic connotations preserved in various French institutions that should be retrieved and delivered in its symbolic capacity to Algeria.
It called on the French party to hype up its concerns about the retrieval of cultural, archival and other properties in the attached list which was sent to French President Emmanuel Macron.
The French committee “unanimously” approved this request and committed to submitting it to the French President, in order for these properties to be returned to their country of origin as soon as possible.
It is noteworthy that the Joint Algerian-French Committee for History and Memory has held five meetings since its founding in the year 2022, the last of which was in Algeria on Wednesday and Thursday, with the participation of ten historians, five from each side.
These meetings are in order to look together at that historical period from the beginning of colonialism in the year 1830 until the end of the War of Independence in 1962.
