Al-Mikdad: ‘We Hold United States Responsible for Spread of Terrorism’

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Since the beginning of the crisis, Syria has been fighting terrorism in parallel with seeking political solution to crisis though participation in intra-Syrian dialogue in Geneva, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal al-Mikdad has stressed.

In a statement to Sputnik, published on Saturday, al-Mikdad said Syria has been working all this period long in two parallel lines; the first is fighting terrorism militarily with the support of our Russian allies and the second is seeking political solution through accepting all calls for negotiations in Geneva and taking part effectively in the talks.” However, al- Mikdad added, “the real obstacle was the unwillingness of western countries to fight terrorism and their continuous attempts to invest in terrorism that caused horror and fear everywhere. ”

The deputy minister stressed daily coordination between Russia and Syria at all levels and in all aspects, pointing out that the western colonialist hegemony is the real cause behind all crises in the region.

He went on to say that the role being played by the United States to restore its position and enhance the American policies is meaningless because its practices are illegal, “therefore we hold the United States responsible for the spread of terrorism and for the state of killing and wounding in the region.”

On western accusations against the Syrian army of allegedly using chemical weapons, al-Mikdad said “we several times asked for conducting a wide investigation on this issue by specialized committee, but the United States hindered this process and it repeatedly launched attacks on Syrian civilians.”

“Therefore, Syrian-Russian consultations are continuously held on the issue of chemical attacks in Syria and on the right to retaliate on time,” he added.

Al-Mikdad affirmed that during the war the Syrian government has cooperated with several organizations because they have had real and clear agenda unlike some other organizations with unknown agendas like the “White Helmets” which has links with the terrorists and which is sponsored by the US, French and British governments.

“We are dealing with 23 non government international organizations which are carrying out their plans in Syria in cooperation with concerned official parties or with civil society associations, he said.
