A UN investigator confirms that Washington’s assassination of Soleimani is a violation of international law
On July 7, the UN Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial Executions Agnes Calamar confirmed that the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, commander of the Qods Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard by the United States, violated the United Nations Charter and violated international law.
Calamar said that the attack violated the United Nations Charter and Washington failed to provide evidence of a plot to target its interests to justify this attack.
“The world is going through a critical time and potential turning point when it comes to using drones and the UN Security Council is not assuming its supposed role while the international community remains largely silent,” she added.
On July 8, Calamar is due to present the results of her report to the Human Rights Council, which will give its member states an opportunity to discuss what action to take.
Lieutenant General Soleimani and Deputy Chairman of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces , Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis and their comrades were killed on January 3.
