50 terrorists were killed in a landmine explosion in northeastern Nigeria

Abuja (ST) – The Nigerian army announced on Tuesday that 50 ISIS terrorists were killed in an anti-armor landmine explosion in Borno State, northeast of the country.

Agence France Presse quoted an official of the Nigerian army, Babakura Kolo, as saying that two trucks loaded with militants from the ISIS were on their way to launch an attack when the first truck exploded as a result of it colliding with a mine, along with the second truck, killing 50 terrorists and wounding others.

For his part, another official affirmed that terrorists from Boko Haram, linked to ISIS, were the ones who planted this mine some time ago to target Nigerian army forces that conduct regular patrols in the region.

ISIS and Boko Haram are known for planting landmines on roads and highways to target military and civilian convoys as part of their 14-year old insurgency in the region that has killed 40,000 people and displaced around two million from their homes.
