The Chinese army begins large-scale exercises around Taiwan

On August 4th, the Chinese army began its military exercises around Taiwan in the largest maneuvers ever conducted in the vicinity of the island.

The Chinese CCTV channel reported that the military exercises began in a number of areas around Taiwan and will continue until next Sunday noon.

The Chinese CCTV channel said that these exercises will take place in a series of areas encircling Taiwan, some of which are only twenty kilometers from the island’s coast.

In turn, the Chinese newspaper Global Times, quoting military analysts, said that the exercises will take place on an unprecedented scale because the missiles will fly over Taiwan for the first time.

The exercises aim to simulate an island blockade and include attacking targets at sea, striking targets on land, controlling airspace, and China’s Maritime Security Administration has prevented ships from entering the maneuver areas as a safety precaution.

Beijing confirms that these exercises are a necessary and legitimate measure after the visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to the Chinese island of Taiwan.
