Orban: The European economy is suffocating as a result of the sanctions against Russia

Budapest (ST): Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban considered that the policy of sanctions against Russia did not achieve its goals, but rather negatively affected its owners.

Orban said in a radio interview, according to RIA Novosti: “The sanctions policy did not fulfill the hopes placed on it, but rather had the opposite effect of what was planned.”

He added: “At first I thought we only shot in the foot but now it turns out that the European economy has shot itself in the lungs and is now suffocating.”

On the expectations of a further slowdown in the European economy in the coming months, Orban said: “All international studies, analyzes and forecasts that he was briefed confirm that due to the combined effect of the sanctions policy and the conflict in Ukraine, the European economy began to shrink.”

The head of the Hungarian government’s office, Yergly Goyash, had warned earlier that the European Union’s economy would fall into a catastrophe if a ban on the import of Russian gas was imposed.
