Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe injured

Tokyo (ST): Former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was shot today in the western Japanese city of Nara.

According to Agence France-Presse, Abe was attacked today while giving a speech at an event in Nara, where he was shot, injuring him and losing consciousness directly.

In turn, several Japanese media, including Kyodo News Agency and Japan’s national broadcaster NHK, confirmed that a shooting was heard during the event. The Japanese broadcaster, quoting police, reported that the shooter of Abe had been arrested as it was found that he had used a rifle from behind the place where Abe was standing to carry out his crime.
