General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums completed the restoration of five icons of historical and cultural importance

The Directorate of Laboratories  at  the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums ( GDAM)  has completed the restoration of five icons  on wooden panels belonging to the churches of “Niah al-Sayida” in Al- Zabadani and “Saint Ananias” in Old Damascus, by removing the effects of fire, then treating damage , color complements and strengthening the protection layer.

The restored icons included the icon of “Christ the All-Conqueror,” which was subjected to various damages over time as a result of fire and natural factors, such as the separation of the preparation layer from the wooden stand in some places, the loss of the preparation layer and color, and the transformation of the original protection layer to yellowing with time, affecting its original colors. Work has also been done on the icons of the Lady Niah   and the Christ of the Church of Niah, and the icons of Saint Demetrius, St. Mary the Virgin and Jesus of the Church of Saint Ananias.

After the necessary restoration work was completed, the icons  were   handed over  to the church with recommendations for transferring and preserving them within the appropriate natural factors to ensure their survival for the longest possible period.
