Zionist Troops Attack Rally, Wound Five in West Bank

Zionist troops have attacked Palestinian demonstrators in the West Bank city of Nablus, wounding five people, including an Italian journalist and a Palestinian photographer working for international news agencies.

Israeli troops fired rubber bullets and tear gas grenades to disperse Palestinian demonstrators marking the Nakba (Catastrophe) Day, who resisted the attack by throwing rocks and stones at the regime forces, Palestinian sources said.

The day marks the expulsion in 1948 of more than 700,000 Palestinians from their homeland by Israeli forces.

Palestinian sources said that the Israeli attack on the demo also injured an Italian freelance photographer and a Palestinian photographer working for Xinhua news agency.

On Friday, 21 Palestinians were wounded by Israeli troops who fired tear gas as well as rubber and live bullets at protesters marking the ‘Nakba Day.’

The events of 1948 are commemorated by all Palestinians, both in the occupied Palestinian territories as well as elsewhere, every year on May 15. The expulsion has since been described by some historians as ethnic cleansing against Palestinians.

On the occasion of the “Nakba Day,” several Palestinian civil groups and organizations in Gaza signed a statement, calling on governments and international bodies around the world to hold the Israeli regime accountable for its war crimes against the Palestinians in Gaza and support the Palestinian efforts to seek justice at the International Criminal Court.

In addition, the Palestinian groups undersigning the statement called for a comprehensive military embargo on Israel and the suspension of free trade agreements and other bilateral agreements with Tel Aviv until the Zionist regime takes measures to comply with international law, including lifting the siege on the people of Gaza.
