Israeli occupation forces open fire at Palestinian fishermen

GAZA, (ST)_  Palestinian fisherman was injured on Wednesday while being pursued by Israeli navy boats off the Gaza shore, according to the Palestinian News and Info Agency (WAFA).

The agency quoted fishermen as saying that the Israeli navy chased several Palestinian fishing boats while sailing in the sea near the Gaza shores and opened fire at them injuring a 23-year-old fisherman in the hand and leg with several rubber-coated metal bullets.

The fisherman was conveyed to hospital in Gaza where he was reported to be in moderate condition.

As part of its 13-year-long stifling blockade on the Gaza Strip, Israeli occupation forces ban Palestinian fishermen from sailing more than three nautical miles in the northern Gaza shores.

Fishing is one of the main sources of income for hundreds of families in the impoverished Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian people will not bow to the occupation

In another development, the Palestinian presidency condemned and rejected the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statements regarding the annexation of West Bank territories occupied in 1967.

It affirmed that these statements are connected with the rejected American “deal of the century” plan, and stressed that annexation will not bring security to anyone.

The presidency stressed in a statement last night that “the Palestinian people and their legitimate and historic leadership will not allow this absurdity and disregard for the United Nations resolutions and the legitimate rights of our people, and that this destructive and dangerous policy will not bring security or stability to anyone.”

The presidency stressed once again that “the only way to security and stability is through adherence to international law and UN resolutions, including Security Council resolutions the latest of which is resolution 2334, the Arab Peace Initiative, and a set timetable to end the occupation as stated in the President’s (Mahmoud Abbas) speech before the Security Council on September 26, 2019.”

It affirmed once again that “the Palestinian people will not bow to the occupation, no matter what the circumstances , and will continue their struggle and adherence to their land until the establishment of the independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.”
