Zionist Occupation Forces Demolishes EU-Funded Shelters in Occupied West Bank

Palestinians look at an Israeli  occupation bulldozer destroying a home in the East al-Quds.

An EU official says the Israeli regime has razed down several humanitarian residential units funded by the European Union in the occupied West Bank.

“On April 9, three of some 18 residential structures were demolished … in Jabal al-Baba” near al-Quds , said a spokesman for the EU’s delegation to the Palestinian lands, whose name was not mentioned in the report, on Friday.

The official added the residential units were “partially funded by EU member states.”

He said Tel Aviv ordered demolition of all 18 structures in February and EU delegates “raised this with the Israeli occupation authorities” both at that time of and after the demolitions.

EurActiv, a Brussels-based news service, quoted diplomats as saying that the EU “should ask for compensation from Israel whenever EU-funded humanitarian aid projects are destroyed.”

Israel has already been under fire for demolishing Palestinian homes. Israeli authorities claim they destroy houses which have been built without permission.

Rights activists, however, reject the claims, saying the demolitions are part of an ethnic cleansing campaign against Palestinians.

‘Israel planning new Jewish temple near al-Aqsa Mosque’

On the other hand, Israeli occupation officials have unveiled the model of a Jewish temple near the al-Aqsa Mosque Compound in East al-Quds.

Palestinian activists say the model of the so-called third Jewish temple has a big hall and can accommodate hundreds of visitors each day.

Israeli occupation authorities hope the project could attract tens of thousands of local and foreign tourists every year.

The al-Aqsa Foundation for Endowment and heritage says the move is a direct threat to the mosque.

The organization argues that the project is aimed at building enough support to make a Jewish temple on al-Aqsa site.

Palestinian groups have already warned of large-scale Israeli excavations near al-Aqsa’s southern gate.

On February 25, the Israeli parliament, Knesset, discussed a plan to annex al-Aqsa Mosque Compound.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has condemned the debate as a “dangerous escalation,” calling it part of Israel’s goal to “Judaize Jerusalem.”

Palestinians have also warned against Israeli plans to impose “sovereignty” on the al-Aqsa Mosque.

The al-Aqsa compound, which lies in the Israeli-occupied Old City of al-Quds, is a flashpoint. The compound, known to Jews as the Temple Mount, is the holiest site in Judaism.
