QUNEITRA, (ST)-The Israeli occupation authorities persist in committing violations and aggressive acts against the people of the occupied Syrian Golan.
In a new development, the Zionist authorities yesterday extended for the second time the detention of Sidqi al-Maqt, the dean of the Syrian prisoners in the occupation’s jails and postponed his trial. The Authorities had fixed May 23rd as the date for al-Maqt trial.
In 1986, the Israeli military court in the occupied Palestinian city of al-Lud issued its unfair arbitrary ruling against the Syrian freedom fighter Sidqi Suleiman al-Maqt and his companions including his brother Bishr Suleiman al-Maqt in addition to others like Asem al-Weli, Hayel Abu Zeid and Sitan al-Weli on charges of resisting the occupation.
Al-Maqt, the longest serving Arab prisoner in the Israeli jails, spent 27 years in prison under torture and mistreatment by the occupation without having his strong determination to resist the occupation and defend his homeland weakened.
On August 2012, the Zionist occupation authorities released al-Maqt, but rearrested him on February 25th, 2015 because of his resistance stances. The Israeli forces, in a flagrant violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention on the protection of civilians under occupation, broke into al-Maqt’s house, ransacked its contents and confiscated mobile phones, laptops and other devices without giving any justification for this attack.
The Committee for Supporting the Syrian Liberated Prisoners Detainees in the Israeli jails has called for the immediate release of al-Maqt, stressing that the occupation’s siege, oppressive practices and arbitrary acts against the people of the Syrian Golan won’t weaken their will and determination to confront the Zionist occupation.
Al-Maqt was born in 1967 in the occupied Syrian Golan town of Majdal Shams.
