“Zionist Exploitation of the Occupied Golan Region”… A Study by Researcher Ibrahim Abdel Karim

Author and researcher Ibrahim Abdel Karim employed his specialized research expertise in Zionist affairs, the occupied Palestinian issue and the Arab-Zionist conflict issues in his new study entitled “The Zionist Exploitation of the Occupied Golan Region”.

According to researcher Abdel Karim, Israeli settlements in the occupied Golan reflects the higher strategic orientations of the Zionist entity, and they are based on the pretexts the Zionist entity adopts towards this region, especially those related to political geography, security, and demography, in addition to the ideological and political claims related to the conflict in connection with these orientations.
The occupation authorities have been keen to exploit the special capabilities of the occupied Golan region in various fields, so the study “The Zionist Exploitation of the Occupied Golan region” by the author Ibrahim Abdel Karim, issued by the Syrian General Book Commission, comes to present some forms of this exploitation.

The study, which came in three chapters, the first chapter deals with “the Zionist settlement exploitation of the occupied Syrian Arab Golan” in two sections, the first of which deals with the current settlements in the occupied Golan, focusing on the number of settlements there, their geographical distribution, their names, the stages of their establishment, the founding parties, their types, the economic base and other activities of each settlement, the organization of settlers, and providing overall estimates of the settlement process in the occupied Golan, then detailed information is provided about the settlements currently existing there.

In the second section, the study addresses the new settlement plans after recalling the outcome of the settlement activities in the Golan, as it reviewed the plans after US President Trump’s statement on March 25, 2019 regarding the so-called “sovereignty” of the occupation over the Golan. The study also casts light on the Golan 2022-2025 plan and its details, and provides samples of opinions supporting this plan and other samples of critical comments.

The second chapter of the study reviews the Zionist economic exploitation of the occupied Golan region by addressing the occupation authorities’ classifications of the lands of this region. The chapter also focuses on the forms of this exploitation in the fields of water, agriculture, livestock, industry, tourism, oil exploration, and others.
The book further provides Zionist data on the economic structure of the occupied Golan and provides an idea of the overall accounts related to the economic exploitation of this region.
The third and final chapter studies the Zionist military and security exploitation of the occupied Golan by pointing to the most prominent geographical and security characteristics of this region and presenting samples of the Zionist pretexts for refusing to withdraw. The chapter also includes mention of some military operations and fires that occur as a result of these operations.

In these three chapters, the author relies on exposed Zionist sources, journalistic research and others, given that these sources provide detailed information about the facts and developments taking place in the occupied Golan, which is information that should be subject to examination.

The study came in about 190 pages of medium size, and researcher Abdel Karim has specialized in research studies since 1980. He started at the Land Foundation for Palestinian Studies in Damascus, and headed the board at this institution from 1994 to 2021. He later worked as a lecturer at the Diplomatic Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs 2023, and delivered lectures in academic and research institutions inside and outside Syria. Mr. Abdel Karim is a member of the Arab Writers Union and the Palestinian Writers Union. So far he has published 25 books and hundreds of research studies.
