Zasypkin Warns against Fueling Sedition in the Region

BEIRUT-The Russian Ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Zasypkin has called for focusing on the fight against terrorism and extremism and warned against fueling sedition in the region and the entire world.

In press statements published today, Zasypkin said that by the time the US-led “International Alliance” refuses to coordinate efforts with the Syrian government on fighting terrorism, terrorists from tens of countries are flowing to Syria to join fighting along the terrorist groups in the country.

He pointed out that the Syrian government has the right to cooperate with forces in the region to defend the country.

Regarding the Russian efforts to attain a political solution to the crisis in Syria, Zasypkin said “Russia has organized consultative meetings in Moscow and it will press ahead with these efforts to eliminate obstacles and achieve understanding.”

He added “we support the initiative of the UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura and believe that if attaining reconciliation helps achieve progress towards the peaceful settlement, this reconciliation should be based on common elements that serve the political settlement issues, improve the humanitarian situation in the country and maintain the sovereignty and unity of Syria.”

The Russian diplomat pointed out that Western parties’ bet on the overthrowing of the “regime” in Syria has been destined to failure, stressing that “it is natural to have de Mistura announcing that President Bashar Al-Assad is part of the solution in Syria and that he is going to continue talks with him.”

Zasypkin urged coordination with the Syrian government on fighting terrorism and called for putting an end to supporting, financing and training the terrorist groups fighting the Syrian state.
