TEHRAN, (ST)- The United States has to return to the nuclear deal with Iran and it should make an effort to become a member of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action JCPOA again, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said in a recent interview with the Iranian “Arman Media” Cultural Institute.
“We are ready to see the United States returning to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), from which it withdrew unilaterally in 2018, but it should, through the implementation of its obligations, acquire the qualifications to return to this deal.”
Zarif pointed out that Washington has withdrawn from the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran and lost its membership and it has not succeeded in forming an international consensus or extending the international resolutions against Iran. He clarified that the United States is a UN member state and based on Article 25 of the UN Charter, it doesn’t have the right to prevent the implementation of this international agreement.
Zarif affirmed that the JCPOA is a legal agreement reached between Iran and six world powers- US, UK, France, Russia, China and Germany- and which had been endorsed by the UN Security Council Resolution, No. 2231.
