Zarif Stresses Respect for Iraq Constitution, Territorial Integrity

New York -Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif underlined support for Iraq’s territorial integrity and the need to respect the country’s constitution.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of his meeting with his British counterpart Boris Johnson in New York on Tuesday, Zarif said the region has been the main pivot of talks in the meetings he and President Hassan Rouhani attended and of course there have been good discussions on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

He said condition in Syria, Iraq and Yemen, especially referendum in Iraq Kurdistan, were discussed and in all the meetings all the parties emphasized respecting Iraq Constitution and territorial integrity.

Zarif went on to say that what’s necessary is not to hold the referendum and that Iraq domestic issue should be preceded in light of talks by all Iraqi parties.

 ‘Of course, in bilateral meetings, bilateral relations are also investigated naturally. The president met Swedish prime minister and presidents of France, Austria and Bolivia and the talks mainly focused on regional and international issues as well as bilateral relations,’ he added.

As for the JCPOA, Zarif said of course, as far as the JCPOA is concerned, there was emphasis on maintaining and observing the JCPOA and the non-negotiability of the deal.

He noted that on Wednesday, there will be the joint JCPOA commission expert meeting.
