Zarif: Russian-Iranian-Turkish meeting stressed Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity

 

Geneva – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif stressed that Moscow meeting that was held yesterday with the participation of Iran, Russia and Turkey affirmed the need to respect Syria’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity and that the political solution is the only way out of the crisis.

Zarif indicated in a statement on Wednesday that a number of points were discussed at the tripartite meeting that were voted on and came out in the form of a joint statement, SANA reported.

He clarified that Iran, Russia and Turkey are seeking through coordination among them to pave the way for a cessation of hostilities, delivering humanitarian assistance and starting political talks among the Syrian parties.

 

He underlined the necessity of delivering humanitarian aid to all Syrian areas.

In a relevant context, UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura welcomed the joint statement of the tripartite meeting, saying that it is useful for resuming the inter-Syrian dialogue in Geneva on February 8th.
