Zarif: Iran’s missile response is defensive and consistent with the UN Charter

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif confirmed today that the Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ targeting of Ain Al-Asad base in western Iraq is defensive and consistent with the UN Charter.

” In accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter,  Iran has taken proportional defensive steps in the framework of self-defense and has targeted the very same base from which Washington has directed its missiles at senior Iranian officials and citizens with a cowardly attack,” Zarif said in a tweet on Twitter.

Zarif stressed that Iran has no intention of escalating or waging war, but it has a right to defend itself against any aggression.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ underground force announced targeting Ain Al-Asad base in western Iraq, in which American forces are present, with ballistic missiles as response to the assassination of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani and his companions, stressing that the missiles hit their targets precisely.
