Tehran- Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Tuesday said that the crisis in Syria should be resolved through political means.
Zarif’s remark came during a meeting with Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi.
During the meeting ,Zarif extended an invitation to Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi to attend the meeting of the parliament speakers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Tehran, according to IRNA.
Iraqi parliament plays a key role in maintaining unity in Iraq and the vigilance of Iraqi officials in dealing with terrorism and extremism is of prime importance, Zarif said.
Vigilance and cooperation of Iraqi officials in their campaign against terrorism would help protect the country’s national unity, he said.
Terrorism is regarded as a potential threat to the entire region, Zarif said.
The Iraqi parliament speaker, for his part, described the two sides relations as friendly and historical and called for expansion of all-out ties between the two sides.
Baghdad has already voiced its support for Geneva talks between Iran and G5+1, he said, adding that it is expected that good relations between Iran and Iraq would help bolster and consolidate relations among other countries of the region.
Referring to terrorist actions in Iraq, he said terrorism and extremism pose a serious threat to the entire region and it is incumbent upon all regional countries to seriously deal with it.
