Zarif Calls for Deploying Syrian Army at Borders with Turkey to Preserve Stability and Security in Syria

TEHRAN, (ST)- The restoration of the Syrian state’s sovereignty over the entire Syrian territory and the deployment of the Syrian Arab army along the borders with Turkey are the best way to preserve stability and security in Syria, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said in an interview with Russia Today Channell, stressing this will be the guarantee to porotect the Syrian borders.

Iran is against replacing an occupier with another occupier

Commenting on the Turkish regime’s threats of new aggression on Syria’s north, the Iranian top diplomat stressed that Iran is against “replacing an occupier with another occupier”.  “Solution lies in the deployment of the Syrian forces and in restoring the Syrian state’s sovereignty over all its territories,” he said, stressing Iran and Russia’s readiness to help reach this solution.

On the forthcoming Sochi summit of the three guarantor states of Astana process on Syria, Zarif said the committee for discussing the Syrian constitution, the withdrawal of American forces from Syria, the situation in Idleb and the repeated Israeli acts of aggression against the Syrian territories are the core issues to be discussed during the summit.

Concerning the US forces withdrawal from Syria, Zarif said “from the very beginning, the entry of US troops to Syria was illegal, so they should withdraw from the country soon.”

“Washington has reached the conclusion that its troops’ presence in Syria hasn’t served the interests of the United States,” he added.
