DAMASCUS, Jan.18, (ST)-Today, Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League declared that he will write a report on the situation on Syria based of discussions he held today with the new Syrian Administration.

In a press conference held with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, As’ad Al-Shibani, in Damascus, Zaki said: “During our meeting with the new Syrian administration, we discussed all issues, and the meeting will be the basis for preparing a report for the AL member states on the situation in Syria.”

“Syria is an important Arab country, and its security affects Arab national security, and there is widespread Arab interest in what is happening in Syria,” he added.

He indicated that the League has not yet collectively discussed the situation in Syria. “We are working with members to discuss the situation in future meetings.

Zaki in addition affirmed that the AL called -early after the fall of the previous regime- for lifting the sanctions imposed on Syria as this is important for launching the economy and achieving the aspirations of the Syrian people.

He concluded by saying that the presence of sanctions now is unjustified.
