The Russian Foreign Ministry’ Spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, declared on Thursday that the US and Western coercive economic measures being imposed on Syria make the economic and social conditions more difficult and hinder the reconstruction and assistance operations.
She added in a press briefing that preparations for the upcoming International Refugee Conference, to be held in Damascus on November 11 and 12 are in the final stages, noting Russia’s great interest in this conference and its invitation to the countries of the region and the relevant institutions at the United Nations to respond positively to the invitations sent by the Syrian government to attend this conference.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem, announced during his meeting with UN Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, last month, the Syrian government’s determination to hold an international conference on refugees on November 11-12.
Zakharova also expressed Moscow’s concern over the attacks of ISIS terrorists in the Syrian al-Jazeera region and the presence of some sleeper terrorist cells in eastern and central parts of Syria.
