Zakharova: US aggression against Syria and Iraq is a flagrant violation of their sovereignty

The Russian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the aggression launched by the United States at dawn yesterday on a number of sites in Syria and Iraq, stressing that it constitutes a blatant violation of the sovereignty of countries.

Yesterday, the American occupation forces launched an air attack on a number of sites and towns in the eastern region of Syria and near the Syrian-Iraqi border, which led to the death of a number of civilians and soldiers and the injury of others.

The aggression also targeted sites in the western Anbar Governorate in Iraq, causing many casualties.

“It is clear that the American air strikes on Syria and Iraq are deliberately aimed at further escalating tensions in the Middle East region.” TASS news agency quoted Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova as saying in a statement.

 She added: “We in Russia strongly condemn the new blatant aggression by the United States against sovereign countries and demand that the UN Security Council held an immediate meeting to discuss the situation that resuted from the aggression.”
