Zakharova: The Council of Europe has become a tool for implementing NATO’s information campaigns

Moscow (ST): Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova confirmed that the Council of Europe has become a tool for NATO propaganda and the implementation of its media and political campaigns.

In an interview with Radio Sputnik, Zakharova said that “for a long time this Organization has become just a tool for NATO propaganda. Also, NATO institutions and its member states and through the alliance’s mechanisms have largely shaped the agenda within the Council of Europe, where nothing remains of equal and effective work in the Council”.

Zakharova stressed that Russia has nothing to do in the Council of Europe as long as this Organization exists in its current form.

This statement comes after the Russian State Duma Deputy Speaker Pyotr Tolstoy announced that Russia had delivered to the Council of Europe a letter from Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov containing a notice of withdrawal from the organization.
